Chicken Fried Steak (Recipe)

I've waited a long time to share this recipe... it's that secret.

My husbands favorite meal is Chicken Fried Steak. It's my go to "I'm sorry" meal, or my "I know you've had a rough week" meal or even just an "I love you" meal.

I HATE to make it. Really, I do. It's horrid and time consuming and you'd have to;

a.) reeeeaallly love chicken fried steak, or
b.) have some serious sucking up to do

to even want to attempt it.

I made it once after I broke our 55" 3D TV, on accident (I cannot stress this enough) and I literally saw Charlie's heart ripped from his chest, kinda like the Queen does in Once Upon A Time... it was pretty similar. It was the ultimate "I'm-sorry-I-know-you've-had-a-rough-week-I-love-you" meal. I should also add there was a bit of "please-don't-divorce-me-over-this" in there too. Hehe, OK maybe not.

If making ridiculously amazing food is my love language, than this was the ultimate sign of submission.

He doesn't get it as often as he likes, because I'm rarely wrong (heh) but Charlie's birthday warrants it, and as you know, it was his birthday on Monday.

Tutorial Tuesday: Cheap Valentine's Day Decor on the fly!

So, I have decided that I need to really really get with it when it comes to decorating for the holidays. Even the minor ones.

For Christmas, our house transforms into a winter wonderland of festive awesomeness. In short, it looks like the holiday barfed all over our living room. I've got probably 10 boxes of decorations just for Christmas alone.

Halloween, I have about 3, and one consists of costume parts and accessories.

Easter I've got a box or 2 with eggs, most missing their soul mate counterparts, and a few baskets we've collected over the years.

Valentine's day I've got a garland from last year.

4th of July I make red white and blue Jello shots...

Saint Patrick's day can suck it, I guess...

Like it said, I need to get with it.

Potty Training 101

You know what?

Little else frustrates me more nowadays than changing diapers.

My daughter likes to tell me when I'm elbows deep in making dinner that, "I pooped, mama." Oh geez kid, really? Now? Onions sauteing on the stove, hands coated in flour, something boiling over, timer ticking down. "Ok, let's go..."

I decided I was DONE WITH DIAPERS. At a cost of around $50 a month, getting rid of that "diaper bill" would be awesome... but was I ready for this?

Ready... not in a "I'm losing my baby" way. Not in a "this is the last diaper I will change *sniff sniff*" way. I've never been that type of mom, reminiscing of the past of the gross and inconvenient parts of baby life. I breastfed until I was just sick of it, just shy of 18 months, at that point it was more of a relief than saying "goodbye" to that stage. We did the crib until that smart little bugger learned to climb out. Those things we're easy to leave behind. No regrets.

Tutorial Tuesday: DIY Diaper Changing Pad

Before I start with this really easy beginner level tutorial, I want to say that this pattern was inspired by my super awesome friend Christina and her adorable baby Ella! I made her a diaper clutch a few months back because after I made myself one, I knew any busy mom with a big purse needed one. This is a rolled up changing pad with a Velcro closure and should fit perfectly inside her extra large diaper clutch.

Tutorial Tuesday : Flawless Face Makeup!

So lately I have been getting back into makeup. Having kids will take you away from things you once loved for awhile...

Anyway, I used to want to be a makeup artist... In fact that's why I went to beauty school, but I ended up loving hair and the rest, as they say, is History! (In case you didn't know, I am a hairstylist.) But I used to loooooove makeup... I would spend most of my paycheck at Sephora and MAC, and life was a very different time back then.

Tutorial Tuesday! Heart Garland

Last week my crafting group got together and decided to make an ever so adorable Valentine's Day craft that I thought I would share with you on this, Tutorial Tuesday! Ok, I know it's Wednesday... but we lost the USB cord to the camera, tore the house apart looking for it, and well... we found it! But now it's Wednesday night. Forgive me.

Alice Tea Party for under $300!

So lately there has been a SWELL in the number of repins of all my Abbey in Wonderland ideas and so I figured it was about time to share my Alice in Wonderland themed birthday party on a $300 budget.

The lovely pictures were taken by my adorable friend Holly at Artistic Anthology Photography. Thanks Holly!

I focused on more the Disney cartoon than the Tim Burton remake as it was a one year old party, but a lot of these ideas can work for both, or even just a backyard tea party. I hope some of this inspires you to create your own Wonderland. I'd love to hear about it and see the pictures! If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to help you out!
